Shades of Mexico

San Carlos/Mirimar/Guaymas.
San Carlos is a gringo community about 15 Kilometers from Guaymas with a couple of marinas and one of the largest dry boat storages in all of Mexico.  There are several hotels, a couple of rv parks, lots of places for rv dry camping and plenty of public beaches to enjoy the Sea of Cortez.  There's one golf course and two fitness centers.  There are a couple of private trailer clubs where you can build casita's or arizona rooms off your parkmodel trailer plus a covered pad for your travel rv.  You lease the land that your personal property sits on in 10 year increments.  The leases are about $11,000 per 1.5 lots and the maintainance fee is about $100 per month.  In other words your cost to live here is about $200 per month plus utilities (about $75 p/month).  Much less than staying in an rv park up in the states.  You have to buy the sites which are already set up and landscaped.  They cost from about $39,000 to $150,000 depending on the site.  We've found several sites that we like for about $45,000.  Tempting but we'll probably just keep on with our old ways.  Here are some pictures of several of the sites in Loma Del Mar, where we're staying with a friend.

The beaches are mostly sandy with some rocky outcropings very typical of the Mexican coastline.  The fishing is great here and the protected bay's are great for kayaking.  The food is reasonably priced and there's lots of great places to eat.  Windsurfing and Kiteboarding could be done here very easily and safely as the bays are protected.
Guaymas is just 15 kilometers to the east of here and has an old Mexico atmosphere, although you'll find gringo's living there too.  This is where the fishing fleet harbors and there's great deal's on seafood as well as many other products there.  Just to the east of Guaymas is a coastal community called Mirimar and it's also more old Mexico.  The beach is beautiful there and there's a lot of high end recreational homes in the area.  We visited a historical old hotel called Hotel Playa de Cortez (pictured below)
Recomended reading if your interested in Guaymas...
