a little about the Apache... the last to be enslaved by the whites...
The Apache were nomadic people who hunted buffalo and deer. They gathered the resources of the earth. They used the timing of the seasons and knew which fruits and plants were ripe. As herbalists for healing and food, they gathered wild plants to survive the southwestern environment. They needed a vast area to roam in order to find enough food, and this took them into Mexico. It was indistinguishable from the American Apache territory, because in the beginning, there were no boundaries, it was only one territory, given to the Apache people by The Creator.
As the buffalo and deer disappeared and encroachment by settlers had reduced their hunting grounds, they had to raid in order to survive. Why should the White have huge herds of cattle on our own land and we starve with no wildlife to hunt?!
The Apache were adept as warriors and desert survivors. Since the warriors were young children they have been in survival training and taught to be courageous, endure, and to have a sense of high self-esteem. They were also gentle, affectionate toward their own people, especially to children who were valued the most.
The Indigenous Native Apache have always been characterized as fierce warriors with an indomitable will. It is not surprising that the last armed resistance by Indigenous Natives came from this proud tribe of Native America. As the Civil War ended the U. S. Government brought its military to bear against the natives out west. They continued a policy of containment and restriction to reservations. ...
I'm not qualified to tell the story here but if you haven't taken the time to read all the tales of Native Americans plight then you should do so...
I'm just honoring the Ancestors of our current Native Americans by showing some Native American related Art and Photos. I do have respect for their wisdom & ways...
